Do many people fly to American just to purchase expensive items?
I am after a new watch to add to my collection and am considering a trip to the states just to buy it. With the very low dollar I will save £300 plus £420 tax, thats a massive £720, ($1400) I would spend what I save having a bloody good week in America. What do Americans think about the British traveling just to buy things, dose Americans have this kind of flexibility?
The American dollar is near record lows versus many world currencies, the pound being one of those currencies. For you it’s a smart move, it’s like getting a free vacation for the price you would pay for the watch alone in the UK. For Americans, it’s quite the opposite, the weak dollar means everything is more expensive when they travel. I’m an American living in Asia, I recently had a friend who was coming to visit pick me up a laptop in America, I saved about 50% of what it would have cost me where I live. I’m sure America is quite happy with foreign travelers coming on holiday and spending money, it’s good for the American economy as well. Have a great trip. By the way, it’s none of my business whether you declare the watch when you return home.
