As a keen fisher and growing up in Africa and having tried various disciplines, river fishing, surf fishing, pier fishing, lagoon fishing, deep-sea fishing, bottom fishing, dam fishing, fly fishing and having caught many different fish, trout, bass, yellow tail, barracuda, tiger fishing, cat fish, and many more, having tried many different techniques in catching fly fishing, reel fishing, hand lines, net fishing, and even spear fishing, it has long been my intention to share my hard gained knowledge with others who are just as keen and passionate about fishing as I am.

Fishing became a part of my life in my early age. Growing up wild in Northern Rhodesia”, my brother and I had to fend for ourselves at an early age, because it was only my farther, my brother and I in the house.

It was a great time to be young in those days being free, running wild in an area were the Elephant pasted your home at night only +/- 100 meters away.

I really feel sorry for the kids of today, they don’t seem to have so much fun as we did,- there mother takes them to school, there mother fetches them from school, the children seem to live indoors all the time and in front of the television or computer games.

For my first fishing trip in the bush, we drove with a 4×4 Land Rover for 4 days till we reached the spot, we were deep into the bush, there was a wide river, with crocodiles, and hippos, not more the 30 meter from our camping place, but the fishing was even better, us children found the dugouts in the reeds by the river of the local tribe, thereafter we did our fishing from these dugouts.

This was river fishing and the grownups showed us all the tricks how to fish.

Every evening we had a great big lager fire were we all sat around listing and telling stories about the day’s adventure and about past adventures.

For us children this was the best time of the day, story time and sitting as equals amongst the grownups.

After the meal, hearing the stories being told, the warmth of the fire, the crackling of the flames, this was a sleeping pill for us the children.

We caught many fish and ate them in the evenings; there is nothing better than catching your fish, cleaning your fish and then frying your fish over an open fire.

Many fish were caught that weekend by all of us and it was the start of a brand new hobby and passion.

Fishing has taught me much, self discipline, patience, dedication and above all true grit staying power, the ability to keep going when everything seems hopeless.

We call it fishing but it is actually a very subtle method of character building and training that we do to ourselves. This realization is just some thing that has dawned on me as I have grown older.

I have learned an enormous amount of information about the mechanics of fishing, equipment preparation, travel planning, researching for out of the way fishing spots world wide.

Trawl through the following pages and I hope you learn something that helps you, to achieve the same sense of happiness and achievement, as I have been blessed with.
